Using Voice Input in Reflections and Journals
Voice input is available in Reflections and Journals, allowing users to record spoken responses and edit the resulting transcription before submitting.
Voice input (microphone icon within the Reflection) lets you speak responses in Daily Journals and Reflection prompts in the PQ App.
After you stop recording, your response is transcribed into the text field, where you can review and edit it before submitting. You can also discard the draft.
Typing remains available if you prefer not to use voice input.
How to Use Voice Input
- Open a Daily Journal or Reflection prompt
- Tap the microphone button (next to Submit or Next) to start recording
- Speak naturally and stop the recording when finished
- The app shows "Listening" and "Transcribing" states during processing
- The transcript appears in the text field for editing
- Participants can cancel recording or transcription at any time
- The "Discard" action clears the entire draft, including typed and transcribed text
Transcription quality may vary due to background noise, microphone quality, pronunciation, and language.

Transcription preserves the spoken language and does not translate.

Privacy and Data Handling
- Voice input requires microphone permission and is optional
- Audio is processed transiently and discarded after transcription; recordings are not stored
- Transcripts are treated as user-entered text after submission
- Voice recordings are not used for speaker identification, advertising, or AI model training
No new third-party subprocessors are introduced with this feature, which has passed an internal ISO 27001 security review.
